Air conditioners use a refrigerant gas to cool you home. R410a is the new refrigerant used in air conditioners to cool the home down. It replaces R22 refrigerant which depleted the Ozone. R410a uses only fluorine instead of bromine or chlorine that is used in the old R22 refrigerant. It was invented by Allied Signal which is now Honeywell. Carrier helped to successfully commercialize the use of R410a, and they were the first ones to introduce it in residential homes back in 1996. R410a is at a higher pressure than other refrigerants. R410a is a blended refrigerant that consists of HFC-32 and HFC-125 to act as a single refrigerant. R410a is more efficient than R22 was. Since they are phasing out R22, 410a is cheaper while the price of R22 climbs. They are only allowed to make R22 in small quantities through 2020 since its bad for the environment. Switching the R410a system is a good idea because it is more energy efficient, cheaper, and better for the environment. Bartlett Heating and Air carries and services both systems but recommends switching to the new R410a when you can. Call Bartlett Heating and Air for all your heating and cooling needs today!
