The truth is that the air conditioner is using a lot of energy any time it is running therefore raising your energy bills. If you do not want to completely leave the AC off when you leave then you can buy a programmable thermostat that allows the temperature to be raised for the hours you are gone and can be set to change to a certain temperature so you are comfortable when you arrive home. Another myth is that if you lower your temperature your home will cool faster. This is not true at all. The other thing that does is it raises your energy bill and puts more strain on your AC which causes early wear and tear. The AC will not cool your home any faster if you drop the temperature. The next myth is that having a bigger AC will make your home cooler. That is absolutely false. A bigger air conditioner will just cycle constantly which will wear it out faster. It is also inefficient when it comes to your energy bills because it just wastes energy. Having a unit bigger than needed in your home is not a good idea. Another small myth is that the air conditioner only cools the air. It actually removes humidity too which is what make the air feel cooler. The last myth we will cover is that fans cool the room. They do not cool the room, they circulate air which will cool you if you are in the room but does not cool the room itself. Leaving a fan on in a room when no one is there is a waste of energy.
