Are you potentially damaging your HVAC system unknowingly? Homeowners may be doing certain things that can cause damage to their HVAC system without knowing. Here are some things that homeowners do that can unintentionally hurt their HVAC system.
The first this is not changing the filters. The filters in your system need to be changed each month and sometimes more often than that. You have to also make sure that your air filters are thin. Thick air filters restrict air flow at times which makes the system struggle. Clogged dirty air filters also will restrict air flow. Dirty filters can allow dirt and debris to enter the sensitive parts inside. Keeping your air filters clean will improve your homes air and also help the system run at its best. The next thing we do is ignore problems the system my have to hold of until next season. One of the worst things you can do is to ignore your HVAC issues. Putting off issues can cause other issues to arise from the ignored problems potentially costing you more money. Your system will also take more energy to run while a part is lagging so it will end up costing you more on your energy bills. You can potentially cause permanent damage if things are left unfixed leaving you to have to do a full replacement. Another big issue is skipping maintenance on your system. Your furnace needs to be looked at each fall before winter comes and your air conditioner needs to be checked each spring before the summer. This is needed to clean it out and make sure everything is in working order. This is the time to replace anything that may be wrong with it so the furnace and AC works when you need it the most. Everything in life needs to be maintained, your HVAC system is no different. We tend to use our thermostat wrong sometimes which can cause issues. Your thermostat is what controls your HVAC system. When you use your thermostat incorrectly you are making your energy bills go up and potentially shortening the life of your system. If you adjust the thermostat too many times while the system is running you can cause the system to run improperly. Make minimum changes only when needed. Turning the heat all the way up in the winter will not make your home heat faster, it will just make the furnace run harder than it needs to. The same goes with your air conditioner. The home will not cool faster just because you turned it all the way down. You are just wasting energy and making the system work harder. On particularly hot and cold days the system will struggle to reach desired temperatures due to the load it has to work through. One last thing we do is we forget about our duct work. Overlooking your duct work can cause issues with your homes heating and cooling. The ducts are what delivers the hot and cold air to your home. If your ducts are damaged and leaking, you will just be wasting the conditioned air and money while not being comfortable. Bartlett Heating and Air can inspect and fix any duct work you may have.
