The quality of the air inside your home is very important. It is what you and your family breathe in while you are home so you want to make sure that it is as good as it can be. The air in your home can be worse than the air outside at times. There are some simple things you can do right now to help the quality of your indoor air be the best it can.
*Though this can be a tough one right now with the cold weather outside, opening your windows will bring fresh air inside to help clean your air up a little. If we have another mild day soon give it a try!
*During the winter it is important to make sure you groom your pets more often. Their dander and fur really make an impact on your homes indoor air quality. They are stuck indoors more than normal in the winter so that dander has nowhere to fall beside indoors. Grooming them will eliminate a lot of the dander issues.
*Having your ducts cleaned by a professional will make a huge difference in your indoor air quality. The duct cleaning will remove piled up dust, dirt, and debris that will be circulated through the home in the air you breathe. Removing all that junk will greatly improve your air quality.
*Get the humidity in your home to be balanced. This will not only improve indoor air quality but it will make you more comfortable. Low humidity causes dry and cracking skin which can get painful. High humidity will encourage mold growth. You want your home at about 50% humidity to make it just right.
*You can get an air purifier to help filter and clean out the air in your home.
*One last thing you can do is to make sure your filters are cleaned and changed each month! This is very important because the filter traps large debris and dust from being put into your furnace which can damage it. It also filters the air we breathe but does fill up fast. Once the filter is full and it doesn’t get changed, your furnace will have to work harder due to restricted air flow which will cause a breakdown and higher energy bills. The furnace will also wear out faster if the filter is left clogged often. It takes only a minute to change and the filters are not expensive.
