Like all man made items, your air conditioner will eventually run into problems. AC issues are never fun to deal with and they seem to come at the worst time like in the hottest part of summer. There are three kinds of common air conditioner problems. They are Drainage, electrical, and refrigerant issues. If you learn to recognize the symptoms, you can fix the system sooner and possibly save yourself time and trouble. Here are some of the common issues we see with air conditioners. The first is with the refrigerant. Each air conditioning systems have their own set specifications on what refrigerant and how much is needed and you can find that information in the manual. When an air conditioner has too much refrigerant, its functionality is reduced and it does not perform the way it should. You may get too much refrigerant when a technician makes a mistake and over fills it. The fix for this is having a qualified technician come out and drain the excess refrigerant. When the air conditioner doesn’t have enough refrigerant in it, it fails to cool properly. It can also freeze the lines when it is low on refrigerant. If that happens you need to shut the unit off so the ice can melt before a technician can recharge it to its proper level. The refrigerant could be low because a prior technician put too little in or there could also be a leak in the system. If you have a leak in your air conditioner call Bartlett Heating and Air today and have one of our qualified technicians out to fix it. The drainage system can be another issue you run into. Your air conditioner needs to be able to properly drain the condensation they produce. If they are not able to drain correctly, it can back up and leak onto our floor. When the unit can’t drain, its performance is reduced greatly and you wont have the cooling you need. A lot of the time the issue is with the condensate drain getting clogged. It is an easy fix, all you do is take the line off the furnace and clean it out wit compressed air or a vacuum cleaner. In order to run, your AC needs electrical components. Electrical sometimes goes haywire leaving you with a broken AC. Anything that runs on electricity is bound to have an electrical problem at one time or another. Over time the wires and terminals that connect your unit to the electrical components can corrode or rust causing them to not connect properly. Your circuit board can sometime short out. You can blow a fuse or trip a breaker which would make the air conditioner not work. If your air conditioner was wired wrong it will not run properly. Breaker malfunction is easy to fix, just flip the breaker back on. A fuse is easy to replace. If your circuit board fries you have to have it replaced. incorrect wiring can be fixed by a qualified technician.
