When choosing a furnace you have many different choices to make. One of the choices you’ll make is if you want a single stage or a two stage furnace. Here is some more information on the two furnaces.
A single stage furnace is your traditional furnace. When it runs, it runs at its full capacity to heat your home no matter the temperature outside. The two stage furnace has two different settings it can run at, high and low. The low setting runs as long as possible to heat your home until it needs to use the higher setting to heat your home to its thermostat setting. Typically the high stage of a two stage furnace only runs about 25% of the time. Having the two stages helps to evenly distribute warm air so there are less fluctuations. Two stage furnaces are more efficient because it will run mainly on the low speed using less energy but still heating your home. You will adjust your thermostat less with a two stage furnace than a single stage. Two stage furnaces are also quieter. Two stage furnaces will make more use of your humidifier since they only run when the furnace does. The two stage runs more often meaning more humidity for your home in the heating season. The two stage furnace is more expensive but will save you more money in the long run on your energy bills.
