As time goes on, your air conditioner is bound to start making noise at some point. Noises should never be ignored because they signal us that something is starting to go wrong. The quicker you find the issue, the easier and cheaper it will typically be to fix it. Sometimes the noise is an easy fix and others it is beyond repair when it decides to start making noise. Here are a few common reasons the air conditioner makes noise.
*Fan- The fan need to be clean to run correctly. When you have a noisy fan, it might just need to be cleaned. Have one of our certified technicians from Bartlett Heating and Air come out and give your unit a thorough cleaning. Your fan may also be loose and need to be tightened. Check to make sure the blades are straight, bent blades may hit something inside and make noise.
*Lubrication- Motor may need to be lubricated. A motor can hum, grind, or squeal if it needs to be lubricated. You can solve this by putting lubricant in the oil ports and oiling the motor at the start of summer.
*Loose Screws- Air conditioners vibrate when they run. The vibration can loosen screws and make them rattle. They can also fall out into the panel and continue to make noise as the air conditioner runs. To fix this you just have to find the screws and tighten them.
*Coil Fins- Your coil fins can become clogged with dirt. You need to clean them with a vacuum to rid of the dirt and debris. If the fins are bent, you might hear a humming. This can be fixed by straightening the fins.
