With summer finally here, the last thing you want is to hear your air conditioner make funny noises. There can be a few different noises the air conditioner can make and a few reasons for your air conditioner to be making those noises noises. Among the noises are chirping, rattling, squealing, growling, and knocking.
*If your air conditioner is chirping, it can be that you have a fan rubbing the coil or cage, dry bearings, or a belt that you need to replace. The chirping is the least worrisome of the noises that the AC can make. Let the air conditioner run for a little while and see if the noise lessens. If the noise doesnt lessen then it is time to call one of out techs to come fix the issue.
*If your air conditioner is squealing, the reasons are the same as it is chirping but typically in worse condition. If it is squealing your air compressor or fan might be going out. You must turn the unit off and get a tech out there ASAP so you don’t make the issue worse and more expensive.
*If you hear a growling or chugging sound, it might be signalling a compressor going out so turn the unit off and call Bartlett Heating and Air to fix it before it gets worse.
*Rattling is another noise people hear when the air conditioner is failing. Rattling can mean a few different things loose fan, worn out motor, bent fan, loose belt, loose panel, or just the unit showing signs of age that aren’t harmful. When you hear rattling, call Bartlett Heating and Air to come inspect the unit and fix the issue before something worse goes wrong.
*If the unit is knocking, it typically is the worse of all the sounds. The compressor can be wearing out or broken. Refrigerant pressures can be too high or low.
*If you hear bubbling noises, you might have a blocked condensate line. You can call Bartlett Heating and Air to come out and clean and inspect your condensate line to fix the issue.
*If the AC is clicking, you might have a bad relay or contactor and electrical problems are major problems so call Bartlett Heating and Air to have out techs come make sure your unit is safe.
*It is also possible you are hearing noise from the duct working contracting and expanding that can produce hissing, popping, and whistling noises.
