We are forecasted to go into a period of high temperatures starting next week. The preliminary forecast calls for 90 Monday, 92 Tuesday, 90 Wednesday and Thursday, 89 Friday, and 90 again Saturday. These are just actual temperature too, add humidity in there and you get heat indices into the upper 90’s and that can be harmful to the health of many. This is a time you want to take proper precautions to make sure you and your loved ones are safe. There are a few steps you can take to make sure you are as comfortable as can be in this heat.
*Keep Hydrated– Drink plenty of non alcoholic drinks to keep you hydrated in high heat.It keeps you alert and helps protect your body from reaching the temperature of 104 degrees which is considered heat stroke.
*Wear light colored light fabric clothing– in the heat it absorbs less heat and keeps you cooler than heavy dark clothes.
*Try to stay inside– Try to stay inside during peak heating times. If you cant stay inside, make sure you have plenty of water with you, a place in the shade to rest, sunscreen to protect your skin, and do not over exert yourself.
*Check on elderly, kids, and those with compromised immune systems– They are the most susceptible to heat stroke during times of high temperatures so they need to be monitored and taken care of.
*Take care of pets– They too can suffer heat stroke. Make sure they are indoors, in a shaded cool area, and have plenty of water.
*Keeping your home cool– Make sure your air conditioner is up to par, cleaned, and ready to go. Bartlett Heating and Air has a $59 AC Clean and Check special going on right now. Keep blinds closed during peak heating to keep sunlight from heating the house more. Keep unnecessary appliances off like microwaves, the oven, and dishwasher because they add unnecessary heat. Run fans if you need additional cooling. Staying on the lower levels of the house helps because heat rises.
Follow all these steps and you should be OK during the upcoming heat.
