During summer, the temperature rises to unbearable levels. Therefore, to provide the indoor comfort your family deserves, you have to install a high quality air conditioning system in your home. This ensures that the temperatures in the house are kept at a normal level. Regardless of their quality, air conditioning systems develop problems after prolonged use. Therefore, you have to apply the right air conditioner maintenance practices, in order to continue enjoying the comfort of your cool air-conditioned home.
Inspection
In order to ensure that your air conditioner is in good condition, you need to schedule an inspection at least once a year. The inspections should be done by a qualified HVAC technician. He or she checks all the components to ensure that they are working well. Some of those components include refrigerant, fans, oil, ducts and wiring among others.
Cooling systems that are checked regularly rarely develop unexpected problems. If you do not have the money to hire a technician on regular basis, do some of the inspections and maintenance on your own. Here are some few DIY air conditioner maintenance practices.
Duct work maintenance
Ducts are the passage ways that direct air from the air conditioner to other parts of the house. They are attached to ceilings, walls and floors of various rooms where vents are installed to let the air into the rooms. It is common for debris and dust to accumulate on the vents. Therefore, when cleaning the house, make it a habit to clean the vents and check if there is any debris or dust that has accumulated inside the duct. You can use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the dust. This maintains the buildup at a minimum.
Clearing the area
An air conditioner needs to pull in air and let out exhaust as it operates. If you let vegetation grow or leave objects lying in front of the inlet and outlet valves, you will reduce the efficiency of the system. Therefore, clear out a space of at least 3 feet on every side of the inlet and outlet valves and make sure no leaves or dust has accumulated on them. One other thing you can do is check the drain tubes.
Installation of high quality air conditioning systems is very important. However, it is not a guarantee that you are going to get good air condition. The key is to perform the correct maintenance practices and you will keep the system running faultlessly for a long time.
