Summer officially begins tomorrow and we’re in for a major warm-up this weekend so what do you do if you turn your air conditioner on and it decides not to cool your home? You have a couple different things you can look at to fix the problem.
* Check your duct work. You duct work is what moves the cooled air through your house and back so if there is an issue with it you wont get the cool temperature you want. You have to check to make sure it is not bent and cracked. If there are leaks in the ducts you have to seal them. If the duct work is poorly designed it would be a good idea to fix it. Bartlett Heating and Air can fix this for you.
*Check your thermostat. There might be an issue with the thermostat and replacing or repairing will fix the problem. A setting might have gotten switched on the thermostat at some point which isn’t telling the air conditioner to turn on when you would like it to so you should just double check it.
*Refrigerant levels should be checked. refrigerant is what cools in your air conditioner and when you are low on refrigerant, it doesn’t cool as much as it should. You should get refrigerant added until it starts to cool and if you end up losing refrigerant again, you have a leak that needs to be fixed. Having your air conditioner recharged will fix this issue. Bartlett Heating and Air will be glad to recharge your AC with refrigerant.
*Condenser coil could be frozen or dirty. When your coil is frozen it could prevent the unit from blowing out cold air. The condenser is what produces the cold air. If you have tripped a breaker, the coil might have stopped working even though the fan outside is running fine. When the coil is dirty it restricts the air flow and makes the air conditioner work harder. You should make sure you have your annual air conditioner clean and check. Bartlett Heating and Air has a clean and check special going on right now. For $59 we come out and do a 28 point inspection, clean, and put up to a pound of refrigerant free.
*Filter could be clogged. If your filter is clogged, it restricts air flow where you need it resulting in less cooling. If you change your filter and the problem still persists then call Bartlett Heating and Air and we will gladly come out and help you fix it.
