Your air conditioner has a drain line to take out the condensation that is formed when the coil comes in contact with warm air so it can drain outside. Doing a few simple things can prevent you from having to have a tech come out and fix it when it gets clogged. If the drain line gets clogged, it can back up into the pan and cause a leak. They get clogged from fungal build up inside the pipe and also the dust, dirt, and debris that gets trapped in the AC.
Technicians will put a wet dry vac at the end of the line and draw out any clog while pouring non hazardous solutions through it to kill the bacteria buildup. There are also anti fungal tabs you can leave in the bottom of your condensate pan. You can help keep your lines clean and unclogged by pouring an quarter cup of bleach down the line. If you dont like bleach, you can use vinegar.
You should have your drain line cleaned at least once a year to ensure that you will have no issues from a clogged drain. Sometimes they get so clogged from lack of maintenance that they have to be cut open to clean which will end up costing you unnecessary money. Call Bartlett Heating and Air to schedule your AC clean and check.
