Your compressor is a very important part of your air conditioner. It is the main part responsible for cooling that applies energy to the refrigerant before shooting it through the the coils where the heat exchange happens. When you are having issues with cooling, the technician will usually check the compressor before anything. Compressor issues need to be dealt with by professionals like the ones at Bartlett Heating and Air because of the dangers involved. Here is a list of the common issues you will run into with the compressor.
*Overheating– The compressor can overheat due to a fault in the motor or wiring. If the compressor overheats it will stop working.
*Locked Compressor– If you failed to maintain your air conditioner each year you might be prone to lock ups. Lock ups happen from being dirty and unmaintained but can also happen because of age the system. The wear and tear can lock up the compressor. If this happens and your system is nearing its shelf life age, you will be better off replacing the whole system vs just the compressor at that point.
*Bad Pressures– A compressor works off of suction and discharge to distribute and change the refrigerant to the high pressured gas. If one or both of the pressures becomes too high or too low your cooling power will be diminished.
*Bad Compressor Motor– Your compressor is ran by a compressor motor. Without a functioning motor, you will not have any power to the compressor to cool your home. Motors can stop working for multiple reasons. A capacitor can be blown in it and simply changing the capacitor can fix this issue. The motor could have burnt out due to lack of maintenance or age. A qualified technician like the ones at Bartlett Heating and Air should be the one to fix these components.
*Improper Sizing– If your air conditioner is improperly sized it will cause issues to your compressor. A system that is over sized will cycle on and off a lot which causes extra wear and tear to your compressor. If your system is undersized, your air conditioner will run longer than needed which also wears the compressor our prematurely.
