Now that the cold weather is here and with that cold weather comes various things that need attention. One of these things happens to be the pipes in your home. They can freeze up and burst if they get too cold this winter. There are some steps you can take to make sure that does not happen. Try not to let your house temperature drop below 55. You can cover exposed pipes with towels to try and keep them warm so they don’t freeze. You can get your pipes insulated so that they are less likely to freeze up on you in the cold weather. You can protect the pipes in your kitchen by leaving the cabinets open to get the warm air to reach the pipes. If you do this, makes sure to take anything harmful out of the cabinet if you have little kids. Letting your faucets drip throughout the day and night is also another useful thing to help fight frozen pipes. If you do happen to run into frozen pipes, never thaw them with an open flame! Use a hair dryer to help defrost frozen pipes. You can also use portable heaters to try and thaw the pipes but again no open flames! Shut the water valves off to the frozen pipes if they burst. If you lose your heat during a cold snap, make sure to call Bartlett Heating and Air right away so we can come out and solve all your heating needs!
