NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence. NATE was founded in 1997 as the largest nonprofit HVAC certification organization. The technicians take multiple choice tests that are knowledge based and show their understanding of the subject and NATE techs can earn certification in one or more specialty areas. NATE techs retake the test every 5 years or go through 60 CEU hours to re certify.
