Cooling season will soon be upon us. You want to make sure your home stays nice and cool. You also want to make sure you don’t fall for the various myths that are widely accepted. Here is a list of myths and the truth so you can make a better decision.
1. A fan cools down the room. The truth is that it cools down your body when it brings the air over it which lowers your body temperature. It does not cool the room down itself. Having a fan running in a room that you are not in is a waste of energy because it will not cool the room down.
2. Air Conditioners just cool the air in the room. The truth is that the AC is taking the heat and humidity out of the room leaving it cooler in the process. The AC also aids in drying the air to make you more comfortable.
3. Turning my AC all the way down will cool the room faster. Not a chance. All you are doing when you turn the AC all the way down is raising your electric bills and making the AC work harder than it should. That will lead to extra wear and tear that is unnecessary.
4. A bigger AC will be better for my home. Not true. Having an AC that is over sized for your home will only cause issues and give you more expensive bills in the end.
5. Leaving the AC on all day will save money. If you leave the AC on all day you will only raise your energy bill. Having a programmable thermostat that can be set higher when no one is home is the best thing for your AC and your wallet. You can even have it set to turn down right before you come back home so you are still comfortable.
