We have a lot of terms and acronyms in this industry. Here is a list of our most common terms so you know what they mean.
SEER– Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. This is the energy rating given to the AC and ranges from 13-20.
Humidity– Is the amount of water vapor in the air.
Ductwork– Is what delivers the conditioned air to your home in a forced air system.
BTU– British Thermal Unit is the measures the heating capacity.
Compressor– The inside component to the air conditioner that pumps refrigerant through the system.
Condenser– Outside part of the air conditioner that gets rid of the heat in the home to cool it down.
Evaporator– Part of the AC that captures heat and removes it. Located on the top or bottom of your furnace.
HVAC– Heating ventilation and air conditioning.
MERV– Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. This is how they rate filters for efficiency.
Refrigerant– The chemical used to cool off your home in your AC.
Split System– HVAC system that has a part located on the inside and the outside of the home.
Zoning– Used when different rooms in your home need to be controlled separately for comfort.
