Did you wake up to a cold home and a furnace that won’t turn on? There are things you can check to see if you can get the furnace to function again. Sometimes it is small things we overlook that cause our furnace issues. Here is a list of things you can look at if your furnace won’t turn on. The first thing you should check is the thermostat. If your thermostat is set to on instead of auto, the fan will run at all times which will cause cold air to come out at times. Just switch your thermostat to auto and that will fix it. Sometimes your batteries in the thermostat die which will cause your furnace not to run. Simply change your batteries and your furnace should turn back on. If you fixed the thermostat and the furnace still hasn’t turned on then you should check your filter next. When your filter gets clogged and full of dirt it can cause the furnace to shut off. The furnace shuts off with a dirty filter because the air flow is restricted and the furnace overheats when that happens. The filter should be changed every month. The next thing you can look at is the circuit and breakers. Sometimes the furnace can trip the breaker or blow a fuse and if the furnace has no electrical, it will not work. If this is the case, all you have to do is flip the breaker or change the fuse. These are all simple things that you should check when your furnace will not come on.
